Gynecological Cryotherapy
Gynecological cryotherapy, also known as cold therapy, is a procedure that involves contact between the patient’s body and liquid nitrogen at temperatures ranging from -150°C to -180°C. This highly effective and painless method is gaining more and more followers. Liquid nitrogen cools a probe, which then freezes the abnormal mucosal tissues.
Cryotherapy for Cervical Erosions
After a cryotherapy procedure, minor discharges may appear; they usually resolve on their own after a short period of time. Treatment is necessary to prevent the small lesion (an epithelial defect) from turning into cervical cancer.
Ectopies
In short, ectopy is a displacement of the boundary between the epithelium lining the cervical canal and the surface of the cervix. This abnormal positioning makes the tissue more prone to damage and infection. Persistent discharge may occur, which can encourage vaginal infections. Ectopic areas should be treated without fail by a gynecologist.
Genital Warts
Genital warts are small, flesh-colored lumps or cauliflower-like growths that appear on the genitals and around the anus. They are caused by HPV, the human papillomavirus.
How to Prevent Them
After becoming sexually active, every woman should have a Pap smear (cytological test) once a year. Preventive examinations allow for early detection of any changes that could potentially lead to cervical cancer.
Dermatological Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy in dermatology—also referred to as cryosurgery—is used to remove pathological skin lesions by freezing them. Conditions such as warts, verrucas, fibromas, or other skin lesions can be treated using this method. It is an alternative to electrocoagulation, surgical methods, or laser therapy. This approach is considered very safe, highly effective, and provides good cosmetic results. In most cases, the procedure is painless. However, if the patient experiences any discomfort, local anesthesia can be used.
Joint Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy is also recommended for musculoskeletal conditions, particularly rheumatic diseases, joint inflammation, and post-injury states. Joint cryotherapy is a localized procedure and does not require entering a cryo-chamber. The procedure takes about 10 minutes: the doctor directs a liquid nitrogen nozzle at the affected joint, holding it 10–15 cm away from the skin, allowing the nitrogen vapor to envelop the area. The goal of cryotherapy is to reduce the reproduction of abnormal cells. The number of sessions needed is determined by the physician in consultation with the patient.
