How to Prepare? Medication and Hygiene Before the Test

Avoid exposing your skin to ultraviolet rays for several weeks before the planned tests. Refrain from sunbathing and visiting tanning salons during this time. Two weeks before patch tests, stop taking antihistamines, anti-inflammatory, and pain-relief medications. Ensure at least two weeks have passed since the end of any antibiotic therapy. Your skin should be clean and dry before the test.

Prick Skin Tests (PST) are particularly useful for diagnosing sensitivities to airborne allergens, such as pollen (grasses, trees, and weeds), house dust mites, animal dander, or mold. They are also used to identify allergens responsible for allergic and perennial conjunctivitis, rhinitis, and asthma.

The standard screening set includes the following allergens:
  • dog
  • cat
  • hazel
  • birch
  • alder
  • grass mix
  • rye
  • mugwort
  • molds
  • house dust mite 1 – Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus
  • house dust mite 2 – Dermatophagoides farinae

Additionally, prick allergy tests can be performed with food allergens, making them particularly useful for young patients suspected of having food allergies.
