How to Prepare? Medication and Hygiene Before the Test
Avoid exposing the skin to ultraviolet light for several weeks before the planned tests. It is recommended to refrain from sunbathing and visits to tanning salons during this time. Two weeks before patch tests, discontinue the use of antihistamines, anti-inflammatory, and pain-relief medications. At least two weeks should pass after the end of antibiotic therapy before allergy testing. The skin should be clean and dry before the test.
Patch Test Procedure: Interpretation and Results
After applying patches with allergens to the skin on the back, the patient should follow a few guidelines to ensure the test is successful and reliable. During the patch-wearing period, avoid intense physical activity that could cause sweating or displace the patches. The patches should not get wet; ideally, the back should remain dry throughout the test period.
The first reading is performed 48 hours after the allergens are applied—patch tests should show initial results after two days. A second interpretation of the results is carried out 72 hours after the start of the patch tests.
